A good salesman needs to be creative, have leadership qualities and be optimistic. The most important need is to have urge for excellence. It is imperative to have a good education, being acostumed to the product and segment marketing and especially to understand the mentality of many types of consumer.
A salesman has to deal with different types of customers and must have the ability to get along with all types of people. Sociability implies manners, sense of humour and ability to talk. Should be delicate and patience to deal with customer according to requirements of the situation.
A sales man never take a “no” for an answer, and try to overcome obstacles that stop the customer from saying yes. All motives must be sincere and need to be the key to the client’s needs, this is very important.
A good salesman is not afraid to talk to anyone who may have an interest in what he is selling. Listening and controlling the conversation by asking smart and interesting questions that are open and gather information is another key trait to successful selling.
In real life, eye contact, standing straight and smiling are important so that the client has a good impression of us.
There is an old adage from sellers: “You have one mouth and two ears, use them in that proportion”.
A good sales person is a good listener.
